HOUSTON — The University of Houston will close Wednesday as part of the official Day of Mourning for President George H.W. Bush.

All scheduled exams and other essential functions will continue, UH President Renu Khator said in a tweet. Only essential staff are expected to report to work.

“Like many of you, I hold a special place in my heart for President Bush’s service to our nation, his thoughtful tone of discourse and the pride he felt for our city,” Khator said in a statement. “He was a friend of the University of Houston, and each time I had the privilege of seeing him he was inspiring and encouraging.”

Khator is asking students and staff who are on campus Wednesday, to join her in a moment of silence at 9 a.m. to remember President Bush.

Anyone with questions should contact their professor/advisor, Khator said.
