More than halfway through 2016, it's clear the year will be remembered for the scourge of near daily terror attacks all over the world — from France to the United States to Iraq and everywhere in between.
Here are some of the major attacks this year:
Nice, France, July 14:
At least 84 killed and 202 others injured after a truck plowed through a Bastille Day celebration. The truck driver was identified by French media as a 31-year-old Tunisian-born Frenchman named Mohamed Bouhlel, who had a petty criminal record but was not known to have any links to Islamic radicals.
Balad, Iraq, July 8:
40 dead and 74 others wounded in a Shiite shrine attack. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Baghdad, Iraq, July 3:
292 dead after a suicide truck bomb blew up in streets of a popular shopping area. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Dhaka, Bangladesh, July 1-2:
22 civilians and two police officers dead after five militants opened fire in a local restaurant. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Istanbul, Turkey, June 28:
44 killed in an attack with gunshots and suicide bombings at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport. The Islamic State is suspected to be behind the terror.
Mukallah, Yemen, June 28:
42 dead from a series of suicide bombings. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Darak, Cameroon, June 14:
52 fishermen killed at Lake Chad and nearby Touboun Ali by Boko Haram terrorists.
Orlando, June 12:
49 shot and killed and 53 injured by gunman Omar Mateen at a gay nightclub before he was killed by police after a three-hour standoff. Mateen said he was inspired by the Islamic State.
Aden, Yemen, May 23:
At least 40 Yemini army recruits killed in a suicide car bombing. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Baghdad, May 17:
More than 100 killed in a series of bombing attacks in and around the Iraqi capital. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Mukalla, Yemen, May 15:
45 men killed in two bombings at a police recruiting center. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Baghdad, May 11:
94 died in three bombing attacks in city neighborhoods. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo, May 7:
At least 38 Christians were hacked to death by suspected Islamic militants.
Al Samawah, Iraq, April 30:
38 Shiite pilgrims killed in a Baghdad suburb by two suicide bombers.
Alau Village, Nigeria, April 24:
50 Fulani herdsmen killed by Boko Haram during a raid.
Kabul, April 19:
64 killed in a coordinated attack involving a suicide car bomb and gunshots in the Afghan capital. The Taliban claimed responsibility.
Lahore, Pakistan, March 27:
72 killed, including 29 children, in a suicide bombing targeting Christians on Easter Sunday at a park. A Pakistan Taliban splinter group claimed the attack.
Iskandariya, Iraq, March 25:
41 killed by a suicide bomber who targeted a crowd after a football game. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Brussels, March 22:
32 dead in three coordinated suicide bombings — two at the airport and one at a subway station. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Ankara, Turkey, March 13:
37 killed and 127 injured in a car bombing. Kurdistan Freedom Falcons claimed responsibility.
Hillah, Iraq, March 6:
70 killed in this city outside Baghdad when a militant rammed a bomb-laden truck into a checkpoint. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Muqdadiya, Iraq, Feb. 29:
40 killed in a suicide bombing while at a funeral for a relative of a Shiite militia commander. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Baidoa, Somalia, Feb. 29:
30 killed in bombing at a busy intersection and restaurant. Al-Shabab militant group claimed responsibility.
Baghdad, Feb. 29:
70 killed in twin suicide bombings that targeted a mobile phone market in Sadr City. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
Dikwa, Nigeria, Feb. 9:
More than 60 killed by two female suicide bombers in a refugee camp.
Dalori, Nigeria, Jan. 30:
86 killed in attack when Boko Haram militants opened fire, set fire to homes and targeted a crowd with suicide bombers.
Splendid Hotel in Burkina Faso, Jan. 15:
30 killed and 56 wounded at the hotel in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb claimed responsibility.
Sharaban, Iraq, Jan. 11:
More than 100 killed by two large bombs that targeted a tea shop and a mosque. The Islamic State claimed responsibility.
