Two dead, including child, in head-on collision in SE Houston

Police are investigating to see if alcohol was a factor.

One person and a child are dead after a head-on collision in southeast Houston early Sunday morning.

HOUSTON - A person and a child are dead after a head-on collision in the South Acres-area early Sunday morning.

It happened shortly after 2 a.m. on Almeda Genoa near Pembroke Street.

The Houston Police Department said a small car and a pickup truck were traveling towards each other on Almeda Genoa.

The driver of the pickup truck noticed the car drifting in and out of his lane. The pickup driver tried to pull over to avoid hitting the small car but was unable to do so. The two vehicles eventually crashed into each other head-on.

The driver of the pickup truck received minor injuries from the crash. Unfortunately, the person driving the small car died. Police said their was a child in the backseat who also died from their injuries.

Police are investigating to see if alcohol was a factor.
