A prison system spokesman says the tornado struck the Pack Unit in Navasota, about 65 miles northwest of Houston, about 4 p.m. Thursday.

The spokesman says all staff members and 1,200 inmates have been accounted for. The prison houses minimum- and medium-security inmates.
