HOUSTON — Lawyers for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton are asking a Harris County judge to dismiss charges in his securities fraud trial in Houston.
His lawyers filed the motions on Tuesday, saying it violates his rights to a speedy trial since the indictments were returned more than eight years ago.
Paxton's trial was expected to start on April 15. He's of accused of recruiting investors for a Dallas-area tech company in 2011 without disclosing he was on the company's payroll.
Paxton was acquitted on all charges in his September impeachment trial. One article of impeachment had accused Paxton of delaying his securities fraud trial.
