TEXAS, USA — H-E-B on Saturday announced that it, along with Chairman Charles Butt, has committed a total of $1 million to wildfire recovery efforts in the Texas Panhandle.
According to the store, Butt donated $500,000 to the State of Texas Agriculture Relief Fund (STAR), a fund that supports agricultural workers who are impacted by natural disasters. H-E-B also committed $500,000 to various recovery efforts and nonprofits that are responding to the wildfires.
"Since these destructive fires began, H-E-B has stayed in close contact with the High Plains Food Bank to support their critical outreach," the store said.
H-E-B said it has delivered truckloads of food, hygiene items, water and other essentials to the food bank.
Earlier this week, the fires grew to be the largest wildfires in the history of the state of Texas.
"Our hearts go out to all those impacted by this disaster," H-E-B Group VP of Public Affairs, Diversity and Environmental Affairs Winell Herron said. "Together with our chairman and the entire H-E-B family, we will work to ensure affected communities can recover from this tragic event."
To further support recovery efforts, the store said it has launched a donation campaign that customers can donate to while checking out.
