BOLIVAR PENINSULA, Texas — A teen drowned in the waters off the coast of the Bolivar Peninsula on Sunday, according to Sheriff Henry Trochesset.

The 17-year-old was at Crystal Beach with his grandmother, who lives in Deer Park, Trochesset said. Around 5 p.m., Trochesset said the teen's grandmother went to the car to get something and when she returned, her grandson was not there.

Trochesset said she waited about 45 minutes before calling for help.

The teen's body was found about a tenth of a mile away. Trochesset said the surf was rough due to Tropical Storm Cristobal in the Gulf.
