A flare was seen at the Shell chemical plant in Deer Park on Friday, March 22.

DEER PARK, Texas — The cause of a large flare that has been visible at the Shell Chemical Company in Deer Park since Friday was resolved on Monday.

According to an update posted on social media, the company said that they had resolved the power outage issue that was impacting a unit at the Deer Park facility and that normal operations were resuming.

When flaring began Friday, Shell said it would last for between four and seven days, which was how long Shell expected it to take to restore power.

"We are taking steps to minimize any noise, light, or smoke associated with this flaring activity," the company said on CAER.

Shell said there was no threat to the community or its industry neighbors.

Later on Friday, Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo released a statement about the flaring, saying while she appreciates the updates, she wants Shell to explain what they're burning off in the flaring and why it's expected to last for days. You can read her full statement below.
