HOUSTON — Prego, a staple Italian restaurant in the Rice Village community, is packing up its plates of pasta and cheeses and heading to a new location.

The new location is only 100 yards away from its current address.  It'll be opening at 5515 Kelvin Drive in the Summer of 2024.

Prego is moving locations because Rice University owns the land where the Italian favorite currently sits and plans to develop the building for university needs. Prego owners didn't want to go far after serving in Rice Village for 40 years.

"It was hard to imagine relocating to anywhere else in Houston. We are pleased we were able to work with the university and we won’t be going far,” said Prego’s General Manager and Operating Partner, David Cook. "Our roots here are deep and this is where our customers look for us to be.”

Prego will stay open through the holidays and into the new year before relocating to Kelvin Drive.

In an effort to honor its history in its original space before heading down the block, Prego is asking its customers to share stories of their experiences at its establishment over the last four decades. If you have any photos or memories to share, please send them to pregodavid@yahoo.com for the potential to be highlighted on their social media pages.
