TEXAS CITY The Krystal Baker murder case will get some national attention tonight when it is featured on the Investigation Discovery Channel s series Nightmare Next Door.
Producers from the show were in town last year to record segments, including interviews with Baker s mother Jeanie Escamilla, Chamber s County Sheriff s Office Detective Sherry Willcox, who was responsible to giving the DNA one last try, and other investigators with the Chambers County Sheriff s Office.
The 13-year-old Baker was kidnapped from Texas City, then raped, murdered and her body dumped under a Chambers County bridge in 1996. Her murder was classified as a cold case until 2010 when DNA tests linked evidence found on Baker s body to Kevin Edison Smith, who was convicted last year.
