MISSOURI CITY, Texas — Editor's note: The girl was found safe on March 1, 2024. The original story is below with the girl's name edited out.

Police revealed Thursday that the missing 12-year-old out of Missouri City might still be in the area.

Thursday marked one week since the girl was last seen. It's believed she left her home in Missouri City and got into a dark Dodge Ram.

She was reported missing on Friday, Feb. 23 but an AMBER Alert wasn't issued until Wednesday, Feb. 28. Police said the reason the AMBER Alert came five days later is that after additional interviews, they got information that was not given during an initial interview. The new information led them to believe she was in danger.

Police suspect she may be a trafficking victim.

The Houston Police Department posted to X on Thursday that she may be on a social media app called Tagged but didn't elaborate on how the app is connected to her disappearance.

Her family put up flyers around Fondren in Missouri City on Thursday in hopes of getting information that could help find her.

The girl, who is a Fort Bend ISD Missouri City middle school student, was last seen wearing a white crop top and pink joggers. She is described as being about 4 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She has brown eyes and black hair.
