KHOU 11, a Belo owned station in Houston, Texas, has immediate opportunities to join our news team. We are seeking candidates to fill the Assignment Desk Assistant position.
Full-time and part-time opportunities are available. The selected candidates will be responsible for gathering news and assigning crews.
Additional responsibilities include the ability to monitor police and fire scanners for breaking news; having good news judgment to evaluate possible stories sent to us by e-mail and phone; helping to plan for major events and upcoming stories and assisting reporters in developing and setting up their stories. The candidate needs to be creative, organized and good at details. The position requires a good communicator who can keep managers, news producers and KHOU.com well-informed of breaking news and other changes.
A minimum of six months experience on a TV newsroom assignment desk is preferred and the ability to work flexible shifts is required. A college degree is preferred.
