Houston Weather: First 70s at night, in almost week

BROOKS'S BLOG: Hot temperatures have been bordering, "the brutal" over the last few days but today we caught a small break and it's a sign of what's to come.
We cracked 79° last night for the first time in five days, when we'd be stuck at 80° or higher!

HOUSTON — Yes, it was subtle, but we caught a bit of a break last night. It was the first time in 5 days that the thermometer dropped to below 80°F. This morning, we enjoyed overnight lows in the mid-70s across Houston and upper 60s from Conroe to Cleveland, TX.

Dry air (in orange) has pushed well into our region keeping the deep, tropical humidity (in green) far to our south.

It worked like this: Drier air filtered in overnight and allowed the heat of the day to more efficiently radiate into space, leaving behind cooler temps. I'll be the first to admit this will not make it feel any cooler this afternoon across the Houston region but psychologically we can say it feels a hair better and meteorologically we can identify that the heart of the heatwave has backed off.

Rainier times ahead as an unusual cool front will push into our region, providing a focus for thundershowers and cooler air associated with all the cloud cover.

So, what's in store for the weather pattern ahead? A rainier pattern will set up next week! This means noticeably cooler temperatures ahead with highs near 90° instead of near 100° and a much lower water bill (if you have to water your lawn.)
