HFD: Three firefighters injured battling fire at restaurant east of downtown Houston

According to the Houston Fire Department there was a “minor building collapse" at the restaurant on Canal Street.

HOUSTON — Three firefighters were injured Saturday morning battling a fire at a restaurant east of downtown.

It happened at the building at 2221 Canal Street near Navigation. The fire is now out.

According to the Houston Fire Department, three firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital following what they said was a “minor building collapse.”

Houston Fire Chief Sam Peña would later post that two of the three injured firefighters were released from the hospital and have returned to their stations. A third, he said, was in good condition and waiting further evaluation.

At this point, we don’t know the cause of the fire. The fire department was asking people to avoid the area.
