Toddlers dies after being hit by vehicle in northwest Houston, police say

Police said the driver was entering the backside of the property when they struck a child playing in the parking lot.

HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department is investigating after an 18-month-old girl was hit and killed by a vehicle in northwest Houston Tuesday night.

The crash happened at the Hometowne Studios hotel on Guhn Road near Fawndale Lane and Highway 290.

Police said the driver was entering the backside of the property when they struck a child playing in the parking lot.

The driver stopped to help the child while waiting for first responders to arrive. Firefighters gave CPR to the child while on the way to the hospital.

The toddler died at the hospital.

"It's definitely a tragedy, unfortunate incident, very sad. Exactly the facts that lead up to it, we're still working on that. Prayers for the family on an overall tragic scene," said HPD Commander Michael Chaney.

Police said the driver is cooperating with investigators. It is unknown if charges will be filed at this time as there were no signs the driver was intoxicated.
