SBA, Houston area leaders launch two business recovery centers to help residents recover from deadly storms

According to the city, the mayor and SBA "will provide insights into the resources and aid to assist the affected communities."

HOUSTON — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and local leaders on Thursday discussed new resources available to Houstonians and Harris County residents trying to recover from last week's deadly storms

As a part of the announcement, the SBA said it will be opening two business recovery centers for residents who need help. Here's when and where they'll be open:

  • University of Houston - Downtown, Maryland Davies College of Business
    • 320 North Main Street
    • Room B106 (first floor)
    • Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Trini Mendenhall Community Center
    • 1414 Wirt Road
    • First opens on Thursday, May 23 at 1 p.m.
    • Open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Francisco Sánchez Jr. with the SBA said the administration aims to help regular residents and not just businesses.

He discussed financial aid available to help with storm recovery, including loans from the SBA. If you do get a SBA loan, you don't have to make a payment for 12 months. During that time, no interest will be incurred, according to Sánchez.

He said federal funds can be used to help mitigate future disasters. According to Sánchez, it's best to apply for aid as soon as possible.

You can go to lending.sba.com to apply for a SBA disaster assistance loan.
