HCSO: Deputy shoots man who charged at him with metal baseball bat in north Harris County

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said a Harris County deputy shot the man while responding to a call for service on Henry Road.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A man with mental health issues was shot multiple by a Harris County deputy on Friday night, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

It happened around 6 p.m. on Henry Road, which is just north of Aldine Mail Route between the Hardy Toll Road and the North Freeway.

According to authorities, deputies responded to the home after getting a call for service. They said a woman called and said her 30-year-old son was possibly going through a crisis and was causing problems. The woman's daughters were also at the house.

When the deputies got there, officials said the deputies encountered the man, who was holding a metal bat. After multiple commands to drop the bat, authorities said, the man charged at them with it. That's when one of the deputies opened fire, striking the man multiple times.

Gonzalez said the man was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The deputy wasn't injured and neither was anyone else at the house.
