Police: Evidence found at traffic stop ties man to hundreds of pounds of weed seized from Bellaire home in February

According to court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News, between Jan. 1, 2023, and April 23, 2024, Bellaire police were called to the home on Merrie Lane 40 times.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Evidence found during a traffic stop Tuesday connected a man to hundreds of pounds of marijuana seized from a Bellaire home in February, according to police.

For nearly a year, the home on Merrie Lane has received numerous complaints from nearby residents over alleged illicit activity, according to Bellaire Police Chief Onesimo Lopez.

According to court documents obtained by KHOU 11 News, between Jan. 1, 2023, and April 23, 2024, Bellaire police were called to the home 40 times.

Reasons for the calls include suspicious circumstances calls, several burglar alarm calls, illegal parking and two calls for drugs and narcotics matters.

In February, court documents show that police seized marijuana seeds from the home. Police said they also recovered hundreds of pounds of marijuana.

On April 23, Bellaire police initiated a traffic stop on Merrie Lane on a vehicle that failed to display a front license plate.

Police said during their investigation, the driver was found to be in possession of marijuana and an unknown amount of money.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said upon further investigation, evidence found inside the car connected him to the over 600 pounds of marijuana removed from the home on Merrie Lane on Feb. 8.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted two counts of possession of marijuana against him and he will be taken to the Harris County Jail.

A recent shooting outside the property on Merrie Lane even prompted residents to meet over the weekend and voice their frustrations at a public safety meeting.

Police are still investigating that shooting.

Police said Tuesday's traffic stop comes as they step up patrols nearby to work on the so-called "problem house."
