HOUSTON – Rockets center Dwight Howard will not be charged with child abuse, Atlanta police announced Monday.

The 6-year-old boy's mother accused Howard of beating the boy with a belt.

Howard's former girlfriend Royce Reed made the allegations after Howard filed for sole custody of the boy last fall.

"It is appalling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father in an attempt to extract money, which is what is happening in this case, said David Oscar Markus, Howard's attorney, back in November. "Dwight Howard will continue to act in the best interest of his children and do whatever is necessary to protect them."

The NBA didn't take any action against Howard.
