Freezing temperatures aren't to blame for water line break at downtown apartment complex, management says

Some residents at The Hamilton apartment complex off St. Joseph Parkway had to deal with a major issue on Tuesday morning.

HOUSTON — If you thought you had a rough day, imagine having inches of water in your apartment on top of the freezing temperatures outside.

It was a big headache for residents at The Hamilton apartment complex off St. Joseph Parkway.

On Tuesday morning, residents noticed flooding in some units. Although they're considered first-floor units, they're built above ground -- over the complex's parking garage.

Residents said two hallways and more than 10 units had water in them. The worst areas had several inches of water, rendering brooms and mops useless.

The cause of the flooding was a broken water pipe between the first and second floor -- which has since been repaired.

Everyone wanted to know -- was it caused by the freezing temperatures?

The apartment management team and a plumber said it was caused by high-pressure problems, not the weather.

The water was eventually vacuumed up and apartment officials said the flooring and anything else that was damaged would be replaced.

Residents relocated to empty units for the time being.
