Deputies shoot, kill suspect while serving warrant in the Heights

Houston police and U.S. Marshals are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in The Heights.

HOUSTON – Sheriff's deputies shot and killed a suspect at a home in The Heights, Houston police confirm.

It happened Monday before just 11 a.m. at a home near 720 E. 12 1/2 Street and Studewood.

Members of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force went to the house to serve warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of a firearm, felony evasion and burglary.

The homeowner warned officers the suspect was inside the residence and was most likely armed.

Houston Police Chief said the armed suspect was trying to run out the back door when he was shot by two HCSO deputies.

The 29-year-old man died at the scene.

Acevedo said the homeowner is being questioned.

"Word to the wise, when you harbor a fugitive, there's a good chance law enforcement is gonna come a knockin'", the chief said.

He said if the homeowner knew the suspect was wanted, he could face charges.

HPD is assisting U.S Marshals in the investigation.
