Job fair in Brenham, Texas

BRENHAM, Texas - The more than a thousand workers laid off from Blue Bell are now looking for new jobs. Wednesday afternoon, dozens of companies showed up at a job fair at Brenham High School looking to fill positions.

"All you can do is hope for the best," said Terry Schultz, a former Blue Bell employee.

"Little anger, little sadness," said Morgan Thomas, who was also laid off from Blue Bell.

"Soon as I got my card, I knew I was going to be one of the ones let go," said Schultz.

250 workers were laid off at Brenham's Blue Bell plant. Now other local companies are hoping to hire them.

"We not only make windows for this area but basically the southeast," said Stacy Overby, recruiting for Ply Gem Windows.

At the job fair, there was everything from production companies looking fill to 100 positions to a family owned tractor dealership.

"Looking anywhere from management positions to sales positions," said John Dowling, with Washington County Tractor.

"I've got a lot of applications, flyers stuff like that, one company actually asked me for my resume," said Thomas.

After three years at Blue Bell, he's hoping he can land on his feet.

"I just want a good full time job, benefits, good pay, somewhere I can work with my hands, get dirty if i have too," he said.

All things Thomas had at Blue Bell, he now hopes to find from a new employer.
