The Houston Zoo on Tuesday shared photos of three green bush vipers born this spring.

The three snakes, born live on March 26 (as opposed to hatched from eggs like most snakes), were originally part of a group of six and have doubled in weight since birth. They are expected to grow between 18 and 24 inches long.

Bush vipers are found in the tropical rainforests of western and central Africa and get their name from their preference for lower bushes instead of tall canopy trees. They vary in color – mostly different shades of green – and can also be bright yellow or gray.

Zoo officials say these three bush vipers will stay behind the scenes as they continue growing.
