Animal Attraction: Rover Oaks Pet Resort Celebrates Milestone Anniversaries With a Week of...

Rover Oaks Houston Celebrating 10 Years of Service and Rover Oaks Katy Celebrating 5 Years of Service on Houston’s West Side.

Rover Oaks Pet Resort is celebrating two milestone anniversaries, their 10th year in Houston and their 5th year in Katy, and they are inviting their clients and friends in the community to join in the celebration throughout the week of September 26 through October 1. It has been such an honor to provide the Houston and Katy areas with the highest level of quality services for pets and their parents, said Steve Smith, owner, Rover Oaks Pet Resort. To show our gratitude we are inviting everyone to drop in and join in the celebration and receive a special thank you from our entire team.

Rover Oaks opened their doors to clients in Houston in 2001 at a time when pet-specific industries were just beginning to emerge. They have been leading the pack ever since by providing the latest and greatest lodging amenities, small and large dog daycare, grooming, and the best professional trainers in the area. Rover Oaks has helped to redefine the role of pets in people s lives and, most importantly, the way we care for them. Gone are the days of the family dog being relegated to the back yard. Dogs are in our homes and in our lives and the team at Rover Oaks strives to provide the most reliable resources to ensure a happy home for pets and their people.

The concept for Rover Oaks came out of owner Steve Smith s desire to create a modern, spacious facility for lodging, training, grooming and doggie daycare after struggling to find a traditional boarding facility could met his and his dog s needs. I was traveling a lot on business and didn t feel comfortable leaving my dogs Kodak and Fresca at some of the more traditional facilities, so I always left them with Jim Burwell, a professional trainer who had helped me train them when they were younger. That s when my passion for my canine companions crossed paths with the business opportunity. After much discussion, industry research, and searching for investors, Jim and I created Rover Oaks Pet Resort and we opened in October 2001.

The resort quickly grew in popularity and it wasn t long before clients were clamoring for a new location on Houston s west side. By 2005 a large number of clients had been coming to Rover Oaks from all around Houston and the surrounding areas. Many of them asked us to build another facility that was more convenient to where they lived, said Smith. As luck would have it, there was a new partner waiting in the wings Joy Lee who joined Smith in presenting a plan and securing investors, most of whom were clients, and Rover Oaks Katy was a reality.

Together, Smith and Lee have taken their love of animals and built a business based on excellent customer service and giving back to their community. They personally volunteer their time and money to numerous animal causes and, through Rover Oaks, they sponsor and host countless events and fundraisers all to help animals in need. Longtime supporters of Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP), they hand prepare an annual Thanksgiving dinner for the animals at the shelter, offer weekly makeovers to CAP dogs and Joy has even published a book, Rover s Rescues: True Stories of Shelter Dogs and Second Chances that helps to raise funds and awareness for CAP s adoptable animals. They also work with rescue groups and animal advocacy organizations like Gulf Coast Cocker Spaniel Rescue, All Border Collie Rescue, Texas Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) and PAWS Houston, to name a few, all with the goal of making an impact and a difference for Houston s animals.

With each year that passes, Rover Oaks has continued to grow in popularity while adding services to best meet the needs of the constantly growing companion animal population. Throughout this time they have seen how the pet-loving landscape has changed and evolved. I think a driving factor behind the change in our business and our industry is the way many people embrace and love their pets these days, said Smith. The result of all of that attention is that Americans spent nearly $50 billion in 2010 on their pets, their pets lifestyles and the care their pets receive, much greater than when we began in 2001. The impact of this change has been the explosion of entrepreneurs creating pet businesses around the country, from full-service pet resorts like Rover Oaks to boutique pet shops, online pet supplies, grooming salons, doggie daycare facilities, pet-sitters, and trainers. While this increase in pet popularity has led to a significant increase in competitors since 2001, Rover Oaks continues to lead the field, and their business continues to grow each year, emphasizing the point that the pet-loving public demands more and more high-quality services from trusted resources.

To celebrate their respective anniversaries and to thank their two and four-legged clients for their continued support, both locations are offering goodies and giveaways the week of September 26 through October 1st. Stop by either location and enjoy a wine and cheese bar in the lobby from 4 to 6 p.m., along with celebratory goodie bags, raffle tickets and awesome Rover Oaks prizes and giveaways. We are so thankful for our wonderful clients, said Smith. Their support has helped us continue to grow, while also inspiring and challenging our entire team to be the best we can be. These individuals have become more than just clients, they have become friends and we are so honored to be the one they turn to when it comes to caring for their companion animals.

Rover Oaks has also garnered praise from the media, the community and consumer groups, receiving rave reviews, awards and accolades each year. Some of 2010 and 2011 recognitions include: 2011 Best Boarding by Houston Pet Talk; 2011 Humanitarian Award from Citizens for Animal Protection; the 2011 Pinnacle Winner-Award for Excellence from the Better Business Bureau, 2010 #1 Dog Trainers by Insider Pages; 2010 Top Rated Pet Boarding, Pet Services, and Dog Trainers by Citysearch; 2010 Best Doggie Daycare by Houston Pet Talk, Houston Press and the Katy Sun; 2010 Best Boarding by Houston Pet Talk, Click2Houston and the Bellaire Examiner; and the 2010 Gold Star Certificate, A+ Rating from the Better Business Bureau; .

We strive to go above and beyond for everyone that enters our doors, said Joy Lee, co-owner of Rover Oaks Katy. To us, success all boils down to happy clients. Whether lodging, grooming, attending doggie daycare or participating in a training class, it is our goal to ensure that our clients and their pets are completely satisfied with the service provided. This attention to detail has really helped us get to know each customer and truly understand their needs. We are thrilled to celebrate our anniversary with our clients and will continue to provide the highest level of services, while making customer satisfaction our top priority.
