Mechanical failure may have caused deadly ATV crash in Houston neighborhood, police say

The rider was not wearing a helmet, police said.

HOUSTON — Houston police investigators responded to a neighborhood on the northeast side late Tuesday after a deadly ATV crash.

The incident happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 13000 block of Breezy Meadow.

Police said a 57-year-old man was operating a green Raptor 700R All-Terrain-Vehicle when a tire locked up, throwing him from the vehicle. In a later press release, investigators said they believe a loose bolt may have caused the incident.

The rider was not wearing a helmet, police said. Firefighters and paramedics arrived and took the man to a Kingwood hospital where he later died.

The man’s identity was not immediately released, but police said he was a resident of the neighborhood.

The investigation is ongoing.
