18-year-old dead, 17-year-old injured in apparent road-rage shooting

The passenger of one car shouted something at the driver of the SUV and pointed a pistol at him. The SUV driver who had his elderly mother in the car said he felt threatened and pulled out his own pistol.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas - An 18-year-old died and a 17-year-old was wounded Friday afternoon in an apparent road rage shooting in west Harris County.

Officials say the shooter is in custody following the incident that ended 12:30 p.m. Friday near a home in the 13000 block of Dawn Hollow Lane.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the driver of an Audi SUV left a gas station and turned onto Beckford Drive near Lima Drive when some type of altercation occurred between the driver and the passenger in another car.

That passenger, identified as an 18-year-old male, shouted something at the driver of the SUV and pointed a pistol at him, according to Gonzalez. The SUV driver, identified as a 39-year-old man, who had his elderly mother in the car, said he felt threatened and pulled out his own pistol.

The SUV driver then fired at the other car, striking the 18-year-old and a 17-year-old passenger. The 17-year-old was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. A 15-year-old driving the car and was not injured.
