17-year-old swimmer goes missing at Surfside Beach

This is the second teen to go missing in water near Houston.

FREEPORT, Texas — Another swimmer is missing after not making it back to shore Sunday. 

The U.S. Coast Guard says a 17-year-old swimmer did not make it back to shore with his friends at Surfside Beach near Freeport on Sunday night.

This is the second teen to go missing in water near Houston on Sunday. The Coast Guard was looking for a 16-year-old swimmer who vanished at Matagorda Beach earlier in the day.

There was also a 29-year-old man believed to have drowned in Galveston.

With strong rip currents, each patrol says even adult swimmers should be careful and stay near lifeguard stands.
