EDINBURG, Texas – Agents at the Weslaco Border Patrol Station have made several arrests at the Texas-Mexico border in the last few days, including sex offenders and a gang member.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, on Thursday officials arrested a Mexican citizen near Hidalgo. It was determined the man was previously arrested in Tippecanoe, Indiana for sexual misconduct with a minor and sentenced to an 18-month confinement.
Just hours later, another Mexican citizen was arrested near Hidalgo. Officials say he been previously arrested in Katy on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child. He was sentenced to six years probation and was wanted by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office for an outstanding warrant of arrest.
On Friday, border agents arrested a man previously arrested by Dallas police for indecent liberties with a child. The man was convicted of the crime and given a five-year probation.
That same morning, McAllen agents caught a Salvadoran national near La Joya. He is a confirmed member of the notoriously deadly Mara Salvatrucha gang, also known as the MS-13.
On Saturday, McAllen agents arrested an Ecuadorian national near Hidalgo whose criminal record showed a previous arrest and conviction for 2nd degree rape in New York City.
Later that day, agents arrested a Mexican national near La Joya, Texas, who was previously arrested by the Clatsop, Oregon County Sheriff’s Office for two counts of attempt to commit rape and was sentenced to a 60 month confinement and a 10 year probation.
