Prescriptions may be delayed nationwide due to cyberattack

UnitedHealth said the attack was against one of its businesses.

HOUSTON — Pharmacies across the country are having trouble processing some medications because of a cyberattack.

UnitedHealth disclosed the issue on Thursday. The company said the attack was against Change Healthcare, its business that processes insurance prescriptions for tens of thousands of pharmacies nationwide.

In a statement to CBS News, United Health acknowledged the attack.

"Change Healthcare is experiencing a cyber security issue and our experts are working to address the matter," a company spokesperson told CBS News. "Once we became aware of the outside threat, in the interest of protecting our partners and patients, we took immediate action to disconnect our systems to prevent further impact."

The spokesperson added that all systems outside of Change Healthcare are “operational.”
