HISD teacher says she was reassigned to work at bus barn during 'inappropriate conduct' investigation

Michelle Williams has been highly critical of Superintendent Mike Miles and his policies on social media. She feels her outspokenness is leading to retaliation.

HOUSTON — Michelle Williams has been a teacher with Houston ISD for more than 20 years, but she's no longer doing what she loves because she feels she's being retaliated against.

Williams was reassigned to work at the district's bus barn while HISD investigated what they called "inappropriate conduct."

Aside from being an educator, Williams is also the president of the Houston Education Association. Williams said she uses her home to film and livestream content for the union, but HISD said that's not true.

On March 6, one of Williams' livestreams was at the center of a letter of concern from Houston ISD officials who said she filmed a meeting from inside her classroom. Houston ISD officials also said Williams made social posts for the Houston Education Association during school hours.

Williams said those posts were scheduled ahead of time.

"When you're trying to retaliate against someone, they make it a problem and it has never been a problem," Williams said.

On social media, Williams has been highly critical of Superintendent Mike Miles and his policies. She feels her outspokenness is leading to retaliation.

"I'm not going to allow HISD or anyone else to put falsehoods on paper about me," she said.

Williams said her students are caught in the middle of the drama. She said she spoke to the parent of one of her students who said her daughter cried after learning Williams would not be teaching.

"It makes me sad," she said. "I cried when I heard some of the things that the kids were saying."

Williams is waiting to see if the district is going to move forward with termination, which it said in the letter she received.
