Gun found in bathroom trashcan at Cy-Fair High School, principal says

The incident is being investigated by the school's administration as well as the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department.

CYPRESS, Texas — An investigation is underway after a gun was found in a bathroom trashcan at Cy-Fair High School Thursday morning, according to a letter from the school's principal.

In the letter, Principal Ana Martin said the school's administration has determined who the gun came from. Martin said students involved will face punishment in accordance with the school's code of conduct.

The incident is being investigated by the school's administration as well as the Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department.

"Identification and intervention of possible threats are key components of CFISD's Safety and Security Action Plan. We work diligently to maintain a safe school environment for every student and staff member at CFHS," the letter reads. "As a reminder to all students, 'If you see something, say something.'"

"Dear Parents and Guardians,

"It is important that you have accurate information about a situation that occurred this morning at Cy-Fair High School. A firearm was found in a restroom trash can. CFHS administration immediately began an investigation and was able to determine who possessed the firearm.

"CFHS administration in conjunction with Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Police Department is fully investigating, and the students will be disciplined to the full extent according to the Student Code of Conduct.

"Identification and intervention of possible threats are key components of CFISD’s Safety and Security Action Plan. We work diligently to maintain a safe school environment for every student and staff member at CFHS. As a reminder to all students, 'If you see something, say something.'"

The district's last day of school for the year is May 31.
