New details: Houston mom accused of killing 5-year-old child

Neighbors are still reacting to a shocking crime in west Houston. "It's too horrific to even think about," said neighbor Susan Silvey.

HOUSTON — A West Houston neighborhood is still reeling days after the brutal murder of a 5-year-old boy. Police say his mother decapitated her own son before placing him in a trash can.

“It’s too horrific to even think about,” said neighbor Susan Silvey. “It’s very, very sad.”

43 year-old Lihui Liu is charged with fatally stabbing her five year-old son last Friday night. Court records say the boy’s body was found on a garage floor, covered by a plastic bag.

“It’s something I just leave in the hands of God,” said neighbor Maria Gonzalez. “It’s unbelievable.”

Gonzalez also has a 5-year-old child.

“Us, as humans, have to take care of each other,” said Gonzalez. “Find help if you need it, but never ignore people around you.”

Neighbors told us they don’t recall seeing Liu. But they said her husband and son would take walks. He’s the one who alerted police after asking his wife where their youngest son was. She reportedly responded that he was in the trash can.

In addition to stabbing her son, police say Liu confessed to drowning him.

“It’s especially hard on those officers out here who have kids of their own,” said HPD Asst. Chief Wendy Bainbridge. “Especially with the age of the deceased.”

Child Protective Services did have contact with the family in 2015. However, the agency cannot say why because of confidentially rules. CPS never had custody of the five year-old or his 13-year-old sibling.

Her former neighbors hope she gets whatever help she needs while facing justice for this alleged crime.
