A Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender is now in custody after being captured in Houston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offender is now in custody after being captured in Houston, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Police say Jerry Wayne Adaway, 58, was arrested Aug. 9 for failure to register as a sex offender.

Investigators with the Texas Department of Public Safety directed police to Adaway’s location in southwest Houston and he was taken into custody without incident.

Records show in 1982 Adaway was convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl in Harris County. In 2007, Adaway was convicted of the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in Travis County. According to DPS, his criminal history also includes sex offender registration violation, robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

So far in 2016, DPS and other agencies have arrested 11 Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Sex Offenders, including seven sex offenders and four gang members, and $18,500 in rewards have been paid for tips that resulted in arrests.

To be eligible for the cash rewards, tipsters must provide information to authorities using an appropriate method, including calling the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).
