'Shocking and horrific': Bond lowered for Houston woman accused of running over man, kissing him, then stabbing him over and over

“The brutality is probably the worst I’ve ever seen in my 10 years in the DA’s office. It’s pretty bad,” Ryan Trask told us after Karon Fisher's bond hearing.

HOUSTON — A Houston woman charged in a crime described as "shocking and horrific" was back in court Friday morning.

Karon Fisher, 20, is charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 64-year-old man and with assaulting a nurse at Ben Taub Hospital the night of her arrest.

Assistant District Attorney Ryan Trask has seen a lot of horrible cases during his career as a prosecutor, but he said this one might be at the top of the list.

“The brutality is probably the worst I’ve ever seen in my 10 years in the DA’s office. It’s pretty bad,” Trask told us after Fisher's bond hearing. “It was shocking when I saw it."

The crime he's talking about happened around 8 p.m. on Friday, May 3, on Woodridge Square Drive near the Gulf Freeway.

Police said Fisher intentionally ran over the victim in the parking lot of an apartment complex before she crashed into a gate and a unit.

“She gets out, walks up with the knife, she turns his body over, she straddles him, and then she kisses him and then slits his throat and stabs him between seven and 10 times," Trask said. "And then she gets up and walks away."

Steven Anderson died at the scene.

Witnesses told HPD investigators where to find his suspected killer and they arrested Fisher that night and charged her with murder.

The motive is unknown but Trask said they've found no evidence linking the two.

"Originally, I thought there may be some type of relationship between the complainant and the defendant," Trask said. "But there was no relationship. It was complete strangers, so that made it even more shocking and horrific.”

He said Fisher was taken to Ben Taub Hospital the night of the crime and she attacked a nurse who was trying to restrain her so she's also charged with assault of a public servant.

They're looking into whether mental health issues or drugs might have played a role in the killing.

Fisher's original bond was set at $2 million. On Friday, it was lowered to $300,000 on each count and another $300,000 for violating the terms of her probation for a total of $900,000.

Court records show Fisher has been arrested multiple times since 2022, mostly for theft, but all of the charges were eventually dismissed. She was convicted of evading arrest in 2023 and given deferred adjudication, a type of probation in which your record is wiped clean if you follow the terms.

Trask said the victim's family is left desperate for answers.

“I think that they are devastated, not really understanding why this happened," Trask said. "And I feel terrible for them because this came out of nowhere, it was something that was totally unexpected.”
