HPD: Woman dead after being shot while stopped at traffic light

Police said they don't yet know what motivated the shooting.

Houston police say a woman is dead after someone opened fire on her while she was stopped at a traffic light. After she was shot, the driver lost control of her car and crashed into a dumpster in a nearby parking lot, according to HPD.

This happened in northwest Houston at the intersection of North Houston Rosslyn and West Gulf Bank Road around 2 a.m.

HPD said the gunman may have been in a silver Ford F-150 pickup truck but they don't yet know what motivated the shooting.

“At this point, we don’t know if it was a road rage or some kind of targeted  incident,” Lt. Larry Crowson with HPD said. "Our homicide investigators are at the scene talking to witnesses. Also, there are a couple convenience stores here. Hopefully someone has some surveillance video.”

Witnesses rushed to the crash scene and called for help but it was too late for the victim.

There was a another woman in the car at the time of the shooting but she wasn't hurt.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
