Driver found dead after hitting home in northwest Harris Co., possibly shot by someone in same vehicle, sheriff says

Harris Co. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said one person, possibly a teen, was seen running from the vehicle.

HOUSTON — A driver was found dead in a vehicle that hit a home in northwest Harris County Monday morning, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

The call came in just before 6:30 a.m. about the scene near E Marsham Circle near Antoine. According to Gonzalez, deputies were responding to a crash when they found the driver dead with possible gunshot wounds.

While still preliminary, the sheriff’s office said that the driver and someone else in the vehicle may have been involved in a drive-by shooting. They said the driver might have been shot by someone in the same vehicle.

The driver appeared to be in his late teens early 20s. One person, possibly a teen, was seen running from the scene, according to Gonzalez.

Deputies said they were told by a witness that two teen suspects pulled up in a vehicle and opened fire at a teen waiting for the school bus.

When he ran way, the suspects allegedly circled back and tried to shoot him again. This is when deputies believe the driver was accidentally shot.

Investigators learned the car the suspects were driving had been reported stolen from a home about two miles from the scene.

At the time of the incident, there were four people inside the home -- an elderly couple and their two sons. Although the car went through one of their son's bedrooms, no one was hurt.

The teen at the bus stop was not injured.

Deputies are still looking into a motive, but according to mother of the 16-year-old who was targeted, everyone involved used to be friends, until she said her son told her they got into some sort of argument.

A neighbors surveillance video shared exclusively with KHOU 11 News shows the teen walking down the street, then sprinting back home as gunshots rung out.

A neighbor told KHOU 11 News she was home with her three kids getting them ready for school when they heard the gunshots and took cover. Her car was hit twice during the shooting.

"Everyone was hiding, we turned off the lights, every kid was on the floor, and I called 911,” Vasquez said. "It was so close, so I'm grateful my kids are fine, and we didn't get out during that time.”

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who knows or saw anything to call them at 713-221-6000 or contact Crime Stoppers. They're also asking anyone who may have home surveillance that captured the scene to contact them.
