HPD: Man who just got out of jail for assaulting ex-girlfriend shoots her new boyfriend multiple times

According to HPD, the man had been let out of jail about a month ago after spending 7 months behind bars for allegedly assaulting his now ex-girlfriend.

HOUSTON — Police are looking for a man accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend at a north Houston apartment early Friday morning.

This happened on Cambury Drive, which is near the intersection of Spears Road and Ella Boulevard, around 1 a.m.

According to HPD, the man had been let out of jail about a month ago after spending seven months behind bars for allegedly assaulting his now ex-girlfriend. After being let out, the man repeatedly called the woman asking her if she had been seeing anyone new.

Early Friday morning, he showed up at the woman's apartment where she was spending time with her new boyfriend, according to HPD. She lived with her three children, ages 16, 6 and 3.

She cracked open the door to talk to the man when he barged in with a pistol and put the gun to her head, police said. The new boyfriend reportedly said he didn't want any trouble and would leave, but the man pointed the gun at him and forced him to the ground. That's when police said the ex-boyfriend shot the new boyfriend multiple times.

The new boyfriend immediately got up and ran out of the apartment. The man followed him out and opened fire again, hitting the new boyfriend again, police said. The shooter took off and the victim collapsed in the grass.

Meanwhile, the woman took shelter in her children's room and called 911. The victim was taken to a hospital where he is expected to be OK. He was shot in the arms, legs, and clavicle.

Houston police said they know who the shooter is and investigators are actively looking for him. His identity has not been released.
