Deputies investigating stolen car in Humble shoot, kill teen who had semi-automatic pistol, sheriff says

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were reported injured.

HUMBLE, Texas — Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) who were investigating a report about a stolen car in Humble shot and killed a teen who had a semi-automatic pistol, HCSO said.

This happened on Fleming Springs Drive, which is near Will Clayton Parkway and Cold River Drive, around 10 a.m.

Assistant Chief Tommy Diaz said deputies were knocking on doors after receiving a call about a stolen car when a suspect, who he described as being in his late teens, took off. As the deputies were canvassing the area, they found the teen and commanded him to stop.

Diaz said the teen did not follow the order and pulled out a semi-automatic pistol with an extended magazine. The teen continued to ignore orders and two deputies opened fire. EMS attempted lifesaving measures on the teen, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting is being investigated by the sheriff's office's homicide division. Separate investigations are also being conducted by HCSO's internal affairs and the Harris County District Attorney's Office. Auto theft investigators were also headed to the scene to look into the reported stolen vehicle.

One deputy was taken to an area hospital as a precautionary measure, but Diaz said no other injuries were reported.
