GALVESTON, Texas — Police swarmed the historic part of Galveston's downtown Wednesday afternoon.

Around 4:10 p.m., they got reports of a man on the roof of a building with what appeared to be a gun on The Strand near 22nd Street.

Officers said they got to the location quickly and cleared the block to make sure everyone was safe.

One person was taken into custody and sent to an area hospital for a medical evaluation, police said.

Police said they have no evidence that shots were ever fired and no guns were found. They also said the incident had nothing to do with a robbery attempt.

Galveston police said visitors might notice increased police presence in the area while the investigation continued. They did say there was no threat to the public.
