Friendswood teen charged with murder after man killed, another critically injured in shooting

The 17-year-old gunman has been identified as Connor Hilton.

FRIENDSWOOD, Texas — A Friendswood teenager has been charged with murder after an 18-year-old was killed and another man was critically injured in a shooting on Saturday.

The 17-year-old shooter was identified as Connor Hilton. He was initially charged with two counts of aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury before one of the people shot -- 18-year-old Ethan Riley -- died from his injuries.

The shooting happened at about 9 p.m. on La Salle Street, which is in a neighborhood off of FM 528. Details on what led to the shooting haven't been released.

Hilton was given a $1 million bond when he was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. He bonded out of jail on Sunday before one of the aggravated assault charges was upgraded to murder.

On Monday, Friendswood police took Hilton into custody again for the murder charge. He was taken to the Friendswood city jail and later transferred to the Galveston County Jail.

The other person injured, a 19-year-old, is still at the hospital in critical condition, police said.

One resident we spoke with who didn't want to be identified shared her thoughts on the shooting.

“I’m shocked that it could happen in our neighborhood, but nowadays, it can happen anywhere,” she said. “I’m not walking at night, no longer on this end of the neighborhood. I go in the other direction.”

We reached out to the Friendswood Police Department for any additional information. They say this is still an active investigation and shared a statement with KHOU 11, saying

“The priority of the Friendswood Police Department is ensuring that the victims and their families are well cared for after experiencing such a horrific tragedy”
