HOUSTON — Houston police are searching for a 29-year-old man who's accused of shooting his common-law wife last weekend at their southwest-side apartment.
Edward Lee Washington is charged with aggravated assault of a family member, according to court records. As of Wednesday afternoon, he had not been taken into custody.
Houston police said the shooting happened Sunday morning at an apartment complex off Dunlap Street near the intersection of South Main and the Beltway.
Investigators said they learned Washington had been arguing with his 47-year-old common-law wife. The dispute continued outside of their apartment, and during the fight, he pulled out a gun and shot her in the mouth. She was taken to an area hospital and was expected to survive.
The couple's 12-year-old son told investigators that his parents had been arguing for hours before he heard the gunshot. He said his father went inside and put on a red shirt before leaving the apartment.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call the HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
