HOUSTON - A new program was announced Thursday in an effort to build a greater understanding of domestic violence and encourage Houstonians to take action and end abuse.

Crime Stoppers of Houston, in partnership with HopeLine from Verizon, have launched its "Safe Community" initiative. The program aims to build a greater understanding of what domestic violence is and to inform survivors about the options and resources that are available to them.

In addition, Crime Stoppers announced the 10 most wanted domestic violence fugitives in Harris County. See the information in the photos below:

"We understand that domestic violence impacts our community in a staggering way. We also recognize that victims are actually survivors who need to be protected and supported. As Crime Stoppers and Verizon take a stand, we ask you to join us." said Rania Mankarious, Crime Stoppers of Houston Executive Director.

October is recognized as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
