A man turned himself into Baytown police Friday and confessed to a fatal shooting from earlier in the day, according to officials.

Authorities say Wayne Serieux, 45, walked into the Baytown Police Department lobby Friday afternoon and admitted to shooting 31-year-old Richard Simmons.

Police responded to a shooting call just after noon Friday in the 200 block of West Jack where they found Simmons had been shot at least once. Simmons was then transported to Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say Simmons was walking on West Jack when a tan car pulled up, and the passenger confronted him. That’s when a physical altercation took place, and Simmons was shot, authorities say. The suspect then fled the scene.

Detectives say a motive for the shooting is unclear at this time.

Serieux is being held at the Baytown Municipal Jail where charges for murder are pending.

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact Baytown Crime Stoppers by calling (281)-427-TIPS (8477), texting “Baytown” and the information to CRIMES (274637) or online.
