Alleged drunk driver arrested after police chase in Houston's northside

Police said the suspect was driving the wrong way down a roadway before the chase started.

HOUSTON — An alleged drunk driver led police on a chase through north Houston overnight Sunday.

Houston police said around midnight they received a call about a wrong-way driver.

Responding officers found the vehicle matching the description of the wrong-way driver and alerted the driver to pull over. Officers walked to the vehicle and said they noticed the driver appeared to be intoxicated.

Before they could get the driver of the vehicle, he took off, police said.

Officers started chasing the vehicle and called K9 units and DPS helicopter for assistance.

The suspect drove down a roadway near Highway 59 and Cavalcade and that's when officers were able to use the PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver to get the driver to stop.

Police said the driver attempted to leave again, but a K9 was released and made contact with the driver.

The driver was soon arrested and taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Investigators sais the suspect is being charged with DWI and felony evading in a motor vehicle.
