Arkansas man charged in hit-and-run death of New Caney teen

The teen who was killed has been identified as Joshua Givens, according to the school district.

NEW CANEY, Texas — A suspect is in custody in connection to the death of a 17-year-old who was killed Sunday in a hit-and-run crash.

At about 12:30 a.m., Josh Givens was walking home from a Quincenera in the 22200 block of McCleskey Road in New Caney when troopers say he was hit and thrown into a ditch.

Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested 23-year-old Logan Chase Foster, of Arkansas.

He is charged with failure to stop and render aide-causing death, according to DPS.

"He should've stayed in the first place," said Givens' friend Brittany Lovejoy as she spoke about the driver. "Because in my heart, Josh could've had a chance if that person had stayed to help him. They took off, just like a coward."

DPS Troopers, who were nearby, responded to the call. They attempted to perform CPR on Givens but was unable to revive him.

Officials said it appears the teen was walking on the side of the road when a vehicle driving the wrong way struck him and kept going.

The New Caney High School football player's friends say he was a bright light who was always happy and always made others smile.

Yesenia Serna says Givens had always wanted her to teach him how to dance. She will not have the chance now.

"If I would've had that time, to teach him to dance, just looking back at the things he wanted me to do, like hang out. It just hurts me that I'm not going to do that with him anymore," Serna said.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office or Crime Stoppers.
