GoFundMe created for Savanah Soto's family; public vigil scheduled for Thursday

Soto was found dead on Tuesday afternoon along with her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra. Police are investigating their deaths as a murder case.

SAN ANTONIO — A vigil for Savanah Soto and her unborn baby is set for Thursday afternoon as loved ones wait for answers about what happened before she was found dead this week.

The vigil is set to be held at Kenwood Park, near Dora and San Pedro, at 4 p.m. It's open to the public.

Pamela Allen, founder of Eagles Flight Advocacy & Outreach, a nonprofit which helps San Antonio families during crisis, also posted on Facebook about offering assistance and donating supplies to Soto's family.

Allen said family members have had a difficult time working while coping with their loss. Eagles Flight is gathering gift cards for H-E-B and Walmart, along with paper products, laundry detergent and other basic household items, to deliver to the family through next week. Any donations can be dropped off at Kym's Kloset, owned by Eagles Flight and located at 8513 Blanco Road.

A GoFundMe has also been created by Soto's family to help with funeral expenses. It identifies her unborn child as Fabian.

A 'perplexing' case

Soto, 18, was found dead along with her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra, on Tuesday afternoon in the Medical Center area of San Antonio. Police continue to investigate the nature of their deaths and are investigating it as a capital murder case, but relatives confirmed the identities of the bodies found to KENS 5.

Police also said an unborn child was dead.

Soto was scheduled to be induced on Saturday, but never showed up to her appointment, prompting her mother to file a missing person's report.

Soto's family had been diligently searching for the last couple days trying to locate her. Police say they found Soto and Guerra in a vehicle outside an apartment complex.  San Antonio Police Chief McManus said they believed the bodies belonged to Soto and Guerra, but added an official confirmation would be determined at a later time.

Police said that both Guerra and Soto sustained a gunshot wound. An official cause of death has not been determined.

McManus described the crime as complex and said it wasn't immediately clear what had happened that led to the two victims' deaths.

"It's a very, very perplexing crime scene," he said Tuesday evening.
