HOUSTON - How much do you tip the babysitter, manicurist and lawn care person during the holidays?

We asked etiquette expert Diane Gottsman for some answers. She’s the author of “Modern Etiquette for a Better Life.”

Here are four suggestions for tipping during the giving season:

  1. The babysitter should be tipped a day’s worth of pay. The nanny should get a week’s wage.
  2. Etiquette experts suggest giving your hairstylist, manicurist and massage therapist the cost of one service.
  3. Lawn care crew, the postal worker and garbage collector can’t always accept a cash tip. You can give non-cash presents under $20.
  4. Pet groomers should get either a gift or a tip that’s commensurate with one week's service.
