San Antonio veteran finds biological daughter after more than 30 years

A DNA kit helped a local Air Force veteran find his daughter, who he gave up for adoption when he was 19.

SAN ANTONIO — An Air Force veteran found his long-lost daughter after more than three decades this past weekend. David Guidice got a call from his brother saying he had a new hit on his Ancestry.com profile. He said he had a feeling it might be Guidice's 36-year old-daughter he gave up for adoption when he was 19.

"After looking at all the information, there was no doubt in my mind," said Guidice.

36-year old Stephanie Huntsman lives in Ohio. This past Valentine's Day, her husband bought her a DNA kit from Ancestry.com. Huntman found out she was adopted when she was five and has been looking for her birth parents ever since.

"We thought nothing would really come from it, we'd figure out what region we were from and that would be it. I told him to go ahead and use my DNA to try and match up with anybody that they might have on file," Huntsman said.

Amazingly, her unknown uncle had also created an Ancestry.com profile years ago to try to track his family's history.

"I got a message from who I now know is my uncle Glen, and he got in touch with my birth father who got me in touch with my half sisters and I have half brothers and we've been talking ever since," she said.

Huntsman found out she has five half brothers and sisters and has been spending the last few days getting to know her family.

Guidice said he never expected this day would come. "I had never stopped hoping. Her brothers and sisters all knew of her," he said.

Now the pair is working on plans to reunite in person sometime soon.
