CBD is coming soon to a coffee cup near you

A new coffee shop in EaDo will offer a shot of CBD with your hot cup of brew.

HOUSTON — A new Houston coffee shop is already creating a buzz by adding a jolt of CBD to their java.

But not that kind of buzz.

CBD -- or Cannabidiol -- is found in marijuana but doesn’t produce the high that THC does. And it’s legal.

Mike Migl and Drew Bailey plan to open their Amsterdam Co. shop in east downtown by early summer.

“East downtown is right now, it’s expanding and growing so much I think the culture is here for something eclectic like what we’re trying to do, Bailey said.

The two plan to add their own twist to your average cup of joe.

“A cup of coffee sometimes gets people a little too stimulated, and they say CBD helps kind of level you out,” Migl explained.

Migl and Bailey came up with the concept after visits to Amsterdam.

“Obviously, we’re a little bit different,” Bailey said. “I’d like to say that we’re selling more than coffee. We’re selling an experience.”

Both admit being avid CBD users but don’t want a negative stigma associated with their coffee just because the chemical compound comes from marijuana.

“The scariest part is how is the city going to take us, right?” Migl said. “And then the most exciting part is how is the city going to take us?”

It is legal to use CBD oil in Texas and the pair has hired a Houston lawyer with knowledge of Texas marijuana laws to guide them through the process.
