HOUSTON — We all have that one teacher that lifted us up, inspired us to be something bigger and encouraged us to maybe do what we are doing today. Great Day Houston and Randalls want to reward those unforgettable educators with the Red Apple Award.
The Randalls Red Apple Award for April goes to Mrs. Akayla Joseph from Winship Elementary School in Spring ISD. Her husband, Avery Joseph, nominated her for the award. Avery says Mrs. Joseph is the definition of a teacher who goes above and beyond. She leads every day with love and works hard to ensure that she equips students with skills they can use in and out of the classroom. Beyond the things Mrs. Joseph does in the classroom, she is also a huge part of "teacher tok" on TikTok. She has over 20,000 followers on the app and uses the platform to inspire current & future teachers. On TikTok she shares tips, resources and ideas for others to use in the classroom. Avery says she's not only an inspiration to her students, but an inspiration to teachers all around the world.
The principal at Winship Elementary School, Todd M. Armelin, says Mrs. Joseph's students benefit from being assigned to her class because she teaches with compassion. Principal Armelin says she realizes that students function on a variety of instructional levels and have many academic needs. Mrs. Joseph teaches lessons that are interactive—allowing students to integrate information across all core subject areas.
